I've been surprised at the absence of any comments regarding the last-minute weight reduction. The last I saw of it was in the September FasTrack, where the CRB stated that they were not recommending a weight reduction based on member input. Then, in January FasTrack, it's a done deal, reversing what they said they were going to do.
Anyone else find this interesting?

Weight Reduction

I'M REALLY AMAZED THAT GUYS LIKE RICHARD GRANT AND OTHERS WERE THINKING THIS WAS IN THEIR BEST INTEREST
TO LOWER THE WEIGHT IN GT-1 SINCE THEY ALREADY CAN'T COMPLETE-THIS IS ONLY GOING TO LET THEIR COMPETITORS GO FASTER- MAKING
BRAKE PADS/ROTORS AND TIRES LAST LONGER IS ABSURD AND MAKES EVERTHING**MORE**EXSPENSIVE!
ALSO HAVING NO REGARD FOR GUYS COMPETING THAT ACTUALLY CAN'T REMOVE A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT WEIGHT FROM THEIR CARS-IT ONLY MAKES
FOR A CLASS THAT WILL BECOME MORE MARGINAL DUE TO RULES LIKE THIS. IT SHOULD BE RESCINDED- COME ON GUYS THIS IS -"CLUB RACING"

I would find a weight reduction pertinent if it were tied to something similar to the old "low tech, V-6,
4-spd., 10 in. whl exclusions rule...50lbs. here, 50 lbs. there. Something contemperary might be some of these
FI LS-1/6.2 liter based crate motors ( they're all-aluminum you know, a current GM prodution item and make a lot of torque.) This couple with one of the old V-6 chassis ( and a 4 spd.) might make for a more economical approach while still being quite fast.

WE ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT HYPOTHETICAL CARS WE ARE TALKING ABOUT CARS CURRENTLY RUNNING GT1 AND THE CRB APPARENTLY HAS NO CONCERN FOR "ALL"
COMPETITORS JUST THE FEW THAT RACE CLUB/TA AND HAVE UNLIMITED BUDGETS. THEY ARE FEW-WHAT ABOUT THE REST? THERE HAS ALWAYS BEEN
"SWEAT EQUITY" UNTIL RULE CHANGES LIKE THIS CRUSHES THE AVERAGE RACER. AGAIN COME GUYS THIS IS CLUB RACING.!!!!!!!!!!

I'm gonna agree with Racer14.
I am not 100% sure, but I think the rule change is the same as what TA did, which is basically dropping 160 lbs. on a 358 sb2. Well, that rule was made for TA, which for the most part are much newer cars that are more capable of getting down to those weights. In one way, I think yes it does make sense for GT1 and TA rules to be as close as possible; but I think, more importantly, SCCA Club Racing needs to cater to their members and most of the members do not have cars that can meet those min. weights.
Not to mention, that rule essentially obsoleted any engine that is not a 358 sb2. So not only will many cars become less competitive, but you can basically throw out any engine supply you have thats not a big 358... Just go ask John Schaller his opinion on that.

FYI This is from the 2011 GCR showing the new weights:
b. Weight
1. The weight chart is applicable to all cars unless alternate weight(s) is/are specified in the GTCS.
WEIGHT CHART FOR GT‑1
Type ‑ cubic inches (liters) = Carb
V
‑
6 ‑ up to 275 (4.5) = 2345
V
‑
8 ‑ up to 311 (5.1) = 2585
V
‑
8 ‑ 312 (5.1) to 335 (5.5) = 2685
V
‑
8 ‑ 336 (5.5) to 366 (6.0) = 2780
V
‑
8 ‑ over 366 (6.0) * = 3070
*With restrictor to 1‑3/8” throttle bores per restrictor plate diagram.
Weight in pounds with driver
Note: Ford engines without inline valves (meaning the valves are splayed or canted) shall add 60 lbs.
Note: GM engines using the SB-2 head shall add 60 lbs.
