Our issues are as follows: 1. Why propose any changes to a class which is enjoying record participation numbers, especially in CenDiv and SoCal Regions? 2. Isn't there a correlation between stable rules which don't change and participation numbers? 3. Why would we want manufacturer involvement in "our" class? 4. Why limit motors to 310" when the latest technology is Nascar based 358's? 5. Does a 310 limit simply make it easier for "foreign" manufacturers, who don't have motors developed over 310, to invade our class? 6. Why would that be better for us? 7. Why should body work have to be no older than 5 years? How is that good for us? 8. Won't these changes diminish resale values of our present cars and motors? Again, how is that good for us? 9. How come we have not been giving feedback to SCCA and why are there no GT1 drivers on the GT Summit Advisory Board? 10. How are changes cost effective for the member/owner/driver? These are some of the issues we have to address. We have spoken to SCCA, Dennis Dean, and they are anxious for our feedback and have offered a GT1 seat on the Summit Advisory Board. We think that it is in our best interests to do the following immediately: 1. Form a unified group to represent the concerns of all GT1 drivers. We propose this group to be called the GT1DA. (GT1 Drivers Association); 2. Have a "pre-Runoffs" meeting during September to list the specific concerns and suggestions we have with the proposed changes; 3. Elect 2 spokesperson's who will represent us to SCCA, sit on the Summit Advisory Board, and attend the meeting with SCCA during the Runoffs to discuss our issues. (note: there will be a meeting with SCCA during the Runoffs for GT drivers to address our issues per Dennis Dean. They are asking for our input. It's important that we are well organized, professional, and specific.) 4. Set up a communication link (email) with all interested drivers so that we can share ideas and get feedback immediately and communicate it to SCCA. Those of you who receive this letter are being asked to give the GT1DA your support by emailing your ideas and concerns and by agreeing to be part of our unified organization (GT1DA). You can email your thoughts etc. to any of us or call. We are proposing a meeting at Lake Forest Sportscars during the weekend of 9.9.2000 or the weekend of 9.16.2000 or any other convenient time or place which is the easiest for the majority to attend. Let us know. You should also try and attend the GT1 meeting during the Runoffs weekend. We are asking for this meeting to be held on Friday or Saturday of the final race weekend. Please note that SCCA is asking for our input and ideas. They are very receptive to our issues and proceeding in a professional manner. We need to join forces with our owner/drivers and SCCA and work together for the best interests of our class and SCCA. We hope that you will join us. This is a crucial time for the future of our class. Regards, Ray Irwin Bob Kasik Rick Mancuso Draft for CenDiv driver mailing: Dear CenDiv GT1 Driver, SCCA is proposing significant changes to our class. These changes would begin during 2002 and be phased in thru 2007. The changes are intended to entice manufacturers to become involved in GT1 and most likely the other GT classes. We have concerns over this position and the proposed changes.
